Despacito is a hit song from Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi with Daddy Yankee was released in 2017. It became the number one streamed music at that period within the space of six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music has not only brought attention back to the genre, but it also brought attention to Latin music in general. Billboard's Top 100 included four mostly Spanish songs in 2016, compared with two for 2015. At the peak of Despacito's chart-topping success in 2017, 19 songs mainly in Spanish made it to the top 100. It climbed to 41 in 2020. After Justin Bieber's remix in two languages to Despacito (2017) famous artists soon began collaborating with reggaeton artists, including Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) and Madonna with Maluma in Medellin (2019). By 2020 a few reggaeton stars were complaining about their genre's shift towards the mainstream. However, a younger generation namely Rauw Alejandro was determined to keep reggaeton evolving. The genre often included elements of electronic dance music as well as other forms.
